Governor Bruce Rauner recently surprised a second grade class at Richland County Elementary School in Olney.
Mrs. Hardy’s second grade class were a finalist in a contest the Governor held called, #GovClassroomVisit. Since the last days of school coincided with the final days of the State’s legislative session, Governor Rauner was unable to visit the school in person. However, the Governor spoke with the children on Skype and surprised the students by offering to host a pizza party with them this summer. Additionally, the students showed Governor Rauner how they use Legos with their assignments, such as reading and writing. Governor Rauner also answered the questions that the students had.
Governor Rauner stated, “What a fun experience! Ms. Hardy’s second graders at Richland County Elementary School are the first students I’ve ever Skyped with. We’re so proud of all our teachers and students who are learning in truly unique ways. Education is the most important thing we do as a state. I can’t wait to get down to Olney and meet all the students at our pizza party this summer!”
