The Illinois State Police District 12 will conduct Nighttime Enforcement Patrols during the month of May.
These patrols are set to be held in Richland and Jasper Counties. They will allow officers to check for drivers that are driving while under the influence, violating safety belt laws, speeding, driving while distracted, and violating all Illinois vehicle and criminal codes especially during the hours between 9:00pm and 6:00am.
The number of driver’s that are killed in traffic accidents while unrestrained is drastically higher at nighttime. When combined with impaired driving, this raises the number of fatal accidents. Impaired driving accounts for more than 30% of all fatal accidents in Illinois and over half occur during the nighttime hours. The Illinois State Police is reminding all motorists to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.
