Effingham Unit #40 is warning parents to vigilant for symptoms of Listeria following a precautionary recall of Aunt Jemima products.
On Monday, May 1st Aunt Jemima Jumbo Whole Grain Waffles were served to students in Kindergarten through 8th Grades in Effingham schools for breakfast. The schools the waffles were served in are ELC, Central Grade School, South Side Grade School, and Effingham Junior High. On Tuesday, May 9th Effingham Unit #40 was notified by Kohl Wholesale that the waffles were featured in a precautionary recall due to the presence of Listeria Monocytogenes in the plant where the waffles were made.
Unit #40 is warning parents to be aware of the symptoms of Listeria and urges them to seek medical attention should their child display the symptoms. The symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria can cause serious to fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly adults, and those with a weakened immune system. As of now, no illnesses have been reported with this recall.
