(Springfield, IL) — State lawmakers are moving forward with an immigration protection bill. Senate Democrats approved a measure yesterday that would ban state and local police from arresting a person because of their immigration status unless they have a federal warrant. The legislation would also create so-called safe zones in state-funded schools, health care centers and secretary of state facilities.
