The Illinois State Police District 12 will conduct Roadside Safety Checks in May.
These checks are set to be held in Effingham County. They will allow officers to check for impaired drivers. Officers will remain vigilant as they look for drivers under the influence, not wearing seat belts or have children properly restrained, speeding, distracted driving, and violating Illinois vehicle codes.
The Roadside Safety Check will be held to keep Effingham County roads safe by removing driver’s that were under the influence of drugs/alcohol from the roads. Driving while impaired from alcohol/drugs is a major factor in more than 30% of the fatal accidents in Illinois. Across the United States, nearly 10,000 people lose their lives each year from impaired driving. The Illinois State Police District 12 is reminding drivers to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.
