UPDATE: The Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service determined that the damage caused by storms in Dieterich on Saturday was caused by straight line winds.
We have received reports of damage that occurred in the area during Saturday night’s storm system.
For instance, residences in Dieterich experienced damage to roofs, trees, and electric wires. According to Dieterich Fire Chief, Ross Martin, Effingham County Emergency Management Agency took reports and pictures of the damage on Sunday and will be submitting it to the National Weather Service. The damage was believed to have been caused by either straight line winds or a small tornado. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
