Herb Pygott, 90, of Neoga, IL passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 29th 2017 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 at the Jewett Community Church. Burial will be in the Janesville Cemetery with Military Rites. The Barkley Funeral Chapel is assisting.
Herb was born on August 17, 1926 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Charles and Rosa (Pugh) Pygott. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Doll on September 28, 1947 in Gays, IL. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2014. He is survived by his daughter Becki (Tom) Denning of Neoga; Two granddaughters Heidi (Steve) Carr and Haili Denning of Toledo; Three great grandchildren Mason and Maci Birdsong and Baili Denning; sisters Nancy (Don) Siebert of Mattoon and Charlene Hall of Clay City. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents, one son Ronnie, four brothers: Dave, Gene, Bob and Danny Pygott and one sister, Linda Henry.
Herb was a World War II Veteran who served in the United States Navy onboard the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier. Herb loved to spend time outside tending the garden and mowing the lawn. He truly loved attending the events of his grandkids and great grandkids and loved his dog Baby. He was a member of the Jewett Community Church, the Cumberland County VFW and the Neoga American Legion Post 458.
