MATTOON — A Mattoon man was arrested early Thursday morning on charges of Attempted Armed Robbery.
According to Mattoon Police, 21 year old Daniel Quainter, of Mattoon, allegedly forced his way into a local motel room around 3:30 Thursday morning in an attempt to rob the occupants at gunpoint. He then fled in a vehicle, leading Police on a chase, at speeds just over 100 MPH, until he lost control of his car while attempting to turn on to Old Sate Road, from Lerna Road, and crashed into ditch where he was apprehended.
Authorities found two loaded pistols, with their serial numbers removed, and around 150 rounds of ammunition.
Quainter is charged with Attempted Aggravated Armed Robbery with a Firearm, Possession a Defaced Firearm (two counts), and Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Police. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
