EFFINGHAM — Effingham Unit No. 40 has been selected to have its “Teach to Lead” plan showcased at a conference in Bloomington next month.
Teach to Lead, or Teacher Leadership Training, is an initiative that encourages teachers to be leaders in improving the district. Superintendent Mark Doan said that idea came after EHS Teacher Joe Fatheree was selected as finalist for the Global Teacher of the Year Award. Effingham’s program will receive feedback and criticism at the conference next month.
“This will be a good opportunity to not only share what we’re trying to do and getting feedback, but also empowering our teachers even more” Doan said.
Some Unit No. 40 teachers have already had some leadership training and as a result have already improved district programs. Two ELC Kindergarten teachers, Hilary Claar and Alyssa Nelson, updated the Board of Education Monday on how they’ve improved the District’s Kindergarten Preview by using it to inform parents on what types of motor skills their kids will need for school. Parents also get to take home a tool kit to help their children practice the motor skills necessary for Kindergarten.
