A new and different type of business will be looking to locate in downtown Vandalia in the near future. A TIF agreement was approved between the City of Vandalia and Radliff Properties, LLC, dba Witness Distillery Monday night and with the agreement, the building at 330 W. Gallatin Street will be rehabilitated and will become the home of Witness Distillery. According to the information in the TIF agreement, the distillery is expected to produce “premium distilled spirits including bourbon, single-malt whiskey, rye, wheat whiskey and flavored infusion.” The building is also expected to have a tasting room and bar for visitors and plans are to have tours explaining how the “spirits are made and the history of distillation including the impact of prohibition in IL, a little-known but incredible piece of Illinois history.” The proposed use also states that a restaurant associated with the business may be included in the second phase of the project at a later time.
