(Springfield, IL) — Chicago’s top cop is urging Illinois lawmakers to approve a bill meant to crack down on gun crimes. Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson testified Thursday during a Senate committee hearing downstate in favor of a measure that would lengthen sentencing guidelines for repeat gun offenders.
Johnson said tougher punishments would create a deterrent for criminals. The committee passed the bill, which now moves to the full Senate.
