Shirley Ann Oakley, 82, of Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 2:15 P.M., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center of Mattoon, Illinois.
She was born November 10, 1934, in Mattoon, Illinois the daughter of Ralph and Pearl (Sewell) Strohl. Shirley married Richard Eugene Oakley, May 14, 1966, in Effingham, Illinois. She retired from The General Electric Company of Mattoon, Illinois in 1999. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and looking for recipes and cook books. She loved crocheting, reading and in her younger years she enjoyed camping. She especially enjoyed her little dog “Heidi”. Mrs. Oakley leaves her husband, Richard Eugene ” Gene” Oakley of Mattoon, IL; two daughters, Dianna “Cristy” McQueen and husband James of Mattoon, IL and Rhonda Rawlings and husband Greg of Neoga, IL; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Oakley was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Owen Ray Sanders, Jr. ; one brother, Howard Strohl and one sister, Margie Jean Sellstrom. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
As per Mrs. Oakley’s wishes her body was Cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 14, 2017, in the Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, with Pastor, Parker Boothe of Charleston, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in the Neoga Memorial Cemetery, Neoga, Illinois at a later date. The Swengel-O’Dell Funeral Home of Neoga, is in charge of arrangements.
