State Sen. Kyle McCarter spoke out against the Grand Bargain Deal after Governor Rauner’s budget address on Wednesday. While McCarter appreciated the Governor’s stance on food and medicine taxes, he said there is still no reason to increase income taxes.
“This however, is no reason to be sticking it to the middle class in the form of higher income taxes, and broadening the sales taxes, and a business opportunity tax or a soda tax or any other thing,” McCarter said.
McCarter is working on budget alternatives that includes a k-12 pension cost shift, pension reform, and ways for the state to operate at lower costs.
