(Springfield, IL) — The state’s film industry is enjoying a growth spurt, as the production of movies and especially television series generated four-hundred-99-million-dollars in spending in the state last year. That’s a 51-percent increase over 2015, which itself saw an 18-percent increase over the year before. A lot of the growth can be attributed to filming done for TV shows including Fox’s “Empire” and NBC’s Chicago franchise, which has added a fourth show, “Chicago Justice,” to complement dramas focused on the city’s police, fire and emergency room workers.
