The Illinois State Police have been receiving reports of an automated message informing individuals that they are under criminal investigation. The voice in the message is described as a male with a foreign accent. After telling the individual that they are under an investigation, the voice requests $600. Additionally, through caller ID spoofing, the scam uses the phone number 847-608-3200, a legitimate Illinois State Police phone number.
The Illinois State Police is informing the public that this phone call is not from them. They are reminding everyone to be cautious regarding phone calls soliciting money, especially if the caller is pushy or threatening.
