Cogressman John Shimkus has nominated 16 students in Illinois’ 15th district for military service academies. Students who apply must first get a nomination from their local congress member and then be accepted by the school itself.
Effingham student Grace Zeller, was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).
“The academies look at academics, leadership, and physical fitness in order to assure a young person is well-rounded and able to cope with the unique challenges of attending a military school,” Shimkus said. “As a West Point graduate, I am very proud of these young men and women for considering an academy for their college choice and am grateful for the honor of being able to nominate them.”
Four military academies require congressional nomination. They include The United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Navel Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. A full list of nominees from district 15 can be found below:
