Three area school districts will be voting on their stance for a tax proposal in the April Consolidated Elections, Monday.
Dieterich Unit #30, Altamont Unit #10, and Effingham Unit #40 will all vote on the tax proposal in their separate Board of Education meetings on Monday. The tax being proposed is a 1% county school facility sales tax for Effingham County. If approved, the tax proposal will be given to the County Clerk from the Regional Superintendent. It will then be voted on by Effingham County voters during the consolidated elections on April 4th.
The area schools have been struggling to procure a long-term solution for financing updates to aging facilities. If approved by voters on April 4th, the funding from the tax proposal would be given to the schools in Effingham County for improvements to their infrastructure.
