Freda Rosalie Ulrey, 90

Freda Rosalie (Callahan) Ulrey, age 90, of Casey, IL passed away at 9:20 pm on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, IL. She was born June 20, 1926 in Clark County, IL the daughter of Charles Earl and Alma Rothrock Callahan. On June 10, 1945 she married John E. Ulrey in Charleston, IL; he passed away on October 12, 2004. John and Freda were married in the home of Rev. John D. English who introduced them.

Freda was a 1945 graduate of Casey High School. She was a proud farm wife, homemaker, cook for the Casey School District and co-owner of J&F Grocery in Westfield, IL until her retirement. Freda and John attended Willis Chapel Church and Casey White Oak Church of God while courting. Freda was a member of the Casey White Oak Church of God, professing her faith in God as a young girl. Freda held many offices in the Church, taught Sunday school for over 50 years and helped with many of the youth activities at the Church. She never met a stranger, always enjoying talking to anyone, sharing childhood memories and her life as a farm wife. Freda was the 4th generation Callahan to live on the family farm (est. 1873). John and Freda were especially proud of the honor of a Centennial Farm in 1976. Freda enjoyed attending auctions with John, quilting, gardening, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom she was very proud of.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Lou (Bruce) Thompson of Brazil, IN; Sherri (Roger) Miller of Louisville, IL; Kathy (Mike) Huddleston of Yale, IL and Alesia (Kenny) Ridgley of Alton, IL; grandchildren, John Wesley (Cathy Milner) Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Jr., Maria (Chuck) Oswald, Amy (Steve) Miller, Cara (Tim) Rinehart, Neil (Theresa) Miller, Brandy (Dan) Noice, Steve (friend, Patty Lowe) Richardson, Lori (friend, Elam Lewis) Guerrettaz, Nic (Megan) Huddleston, Joshua (Shawna) Ridgley, Michael (Jackie) Ridgley and Jordan Ridgley; thirty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; brother in law, Robert Smith of Urbana, IL; three nephews, two nieces, her Church family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband John; sister and brother in law, Faye and Orville Simonton; sister in law, Phyllis Smith and grandchildren, Mary Kathleen Thompson, Sheena Taneil Ridgley and Jessica Miller.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Casey White Oak Church of God with Rev. Larry Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery, Casey, IL. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service on Saturday at the Casey White Oak Church of God, 3305 E. 1000th Rd Casey, IL.
