I love it when there’s some new science fiction to discuss. The next installment in the “Alien” franchise now has a trailer. “Alien: Covenant” supposedly takes place following the events of “Prometheus” when a colony ship lands on what appears to an undiscovered paradise. The only inhabitant is the synthetic David, who is the only survivor of the Prometheus expedition. Check it out!
I didn’t see any sign of Noomi Rapace’s character in there, but she’s listed with cast on IMDB, so presumably she’ll be showing up at some point, possibly in a flashback. Also, I’m fairly certain that the Michael Fassbender that’s in the trailer is a different synthetic than David from Prometheus as he’s missing a body after the last film. There are, however, what appear to some traditional looking Aliens and a good ‘ole face-hugger, meaning that Ridley Scott seems to be going for an experience closer to the 1979 classic. At the same time, the exploration aspect that we saw in Prometheus will also play a role in this new film.
It seems like the formula is fairly similar to the previous film. Unsuspecting crew lands on world only to be terrorized by forces far beyond their comprehension and has to make a daring escape. But, wait! What if they accidentally bring the aliens back with them? Or is it an accident? Either way, should be one to see. “Alien: Covenant” has been set for release on May 17, 2017!
BONUS MOVIE TRAILER:
I meant to blog about this one earlier, but didn’t get around to it. Can you believe they’re making a “Blade Runner” sequel? We got a first look last week that featured Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford reprising his role as Deckard.
“Blade Runner 2049” takes place 30 years following the first film. Deckard has been missing for 30 years (totes a replicant) and apparently has some dark secret that Ryan Gosling, LAPD Officer K, is trying to figure out. The films also some other big names on the cast including Jared Leto and Robin Wright. We’re looking at release date sometime in 2017.
