Mike DePoister was thanked for his four years of service on the Effingham County Board at Tuesday’s special session. A portion of the resolution, read by County Board Chairman Jim Niemann, said “therefore be it resolved that we, the undersigned members of the Effingham County Board, do hereby thank you for your four years of dedicated service to the people of Effingham County.”
DePoister represented District E in Effingham County and will be replaced by Republican John Perry beginning this Monday at the county re-organizational meeting. Perry was sworn in by County Clerk Kerry Hirtzel after Tuesday’s meeting.
The board also formed a committee for Waste Management in the county. The topic had been discussed, on the committee level, due to inquiries about county tipping fees and refuse from demolished structures. The committee was also formed in response to growing interest in establishing a recycling program that would service Effingham and the county. The committee will consist of five members, with one from the public at large, the county board, the city of Effingham, the Health Department, and a Representative from the local landfill. Members will be assigned at Monday’s meeting.
