Raymond L. Shuler, 100, of Effingham, formerly of Olney passed away Friday, November 25, 2016 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Effingham
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at KPFH- Olney with Visitation one hour before service time. Burial will follow in Crest Haven Memorial Park
Raymond was born on February 29, 1916 in Jennings, OK the son of William Arthur Shuler and Grace Elizabeth
On August 18, 1946 he married Anna LaVange (Dunlap) in Albion, IL who survives.
Ray was employed by the Pure Oil Company and Union Oil Company for 41 years (1939-1980). He also worked as a bookkeeper at Shuler Tractor Service in Noble, IL for 25 years. Ray served in the US Army for 5-1/2 years during WWII and the Korean War and then also served in the US Army Reserves for 5 more years.
Ray enjoyed family vacations and family gatherings. He took pleasure in helping family members with their home projects. He also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals games.
Ray was a deacon and treasurer at the Olney Southern Baptist Church for 35 years. Ray treasured the pocket watch he received from the Veterans and the afghan he received from President Obama when he turned 100 years old.
Ray was a member of Olney Southern Baptist Church, Eff. 1st Baptist Church
Ray is survived by his Wife of 70 years, LaVange Shuler of Effingham, IL; Son, Larry Ray Shuler and wife Pat of Oklahoma City, OK; Son, William Arthur Shuler and wife Cheryl of Effingham, IL; Son, Jack Wayne Shuler and wife Jean of Columbia, IL; Son, Dale Roland Shuler and wife Carla of Carmi, IL; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren
Ray is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Eddie, Stanley, and Jack; sisters, Lucille Lawson and Leona Shuler; and son, James Alan Shuler
