Term limits advocate and State Senator Kyle McCarter is moving ahead with efforts to push the term limits issue on the state and national level. Senator McCarter has introduced a resolution calling for a federal constitutional convention to approve a term limits amendment. McCarter believes there is no better time than now to push the issue in the wake of the national election in which government reform was a major issue.
McCarter says whether it’s the state or federal government, the founding fathers never intended politics to be a career entitlement.
The 54th district Senator says Illinoisans and Americans want term limits, which fosters new ideas and innovations and re-invigorates the political process. The U.S. Constitution requires Congress to call a convention for proposing amendments with the approval of 2/3rds of the state’s legislatures. McCarter’s Senate joint resolution 68 is the first step to seek that approval from the Illinois General Assembly. Term limits for Illinois has been ignored legislatively and rejected by the State Supreme Court. Story courtesy of Todd Stapleton of vandaliaradio.com.
