Effingham Mayor Jeff Bloemker called for Illinois legislators to get back to the negotiation table in a statement released on Thursday, referring to the state’s current legislative and fiscal gridlock.
“Now that the election is in our rear-view mirror, our leaders in Springfield need to come together in the spirit of cooperation,” stated Mayor Jeff Bloemker. “ I’m pleased that Governor Rauner has wasted no time in extending an invitation to the four legislative leaders to meet in Springfield on Monday to discuss agreeing to a balanced budget with reforms. The City of Effingham would benefit tremendously from a balanced budget coupled with structural reforms. A balanced budget would provide critical funding for Effingham and reforms like Workers Compensation and Pension reform will save local municipalities much needed dollars to fund local operations. I urge the leaders of the General Assembly to meet as soon as possible to negotiate these serious issues.”
