(Chicago, IL) — The election is bringing a slight but important power shift in Springfield. By spending tens of millions of dollars, much of it from his own fortune, Governor Rauner was able to secure at least three seats in the Illinois House, eliminating Speaker Michael Madigan’s veto-proof majority while leaving Madigan in tight control. In the Senate, Republicans appeared to be picking up two seats, not enough to eliminate the veto-proof majority of Senate President John Cullerton.
