Four were injured in a one vehicle crash just southeast of Iola Tuesday night on Mockingbird Road.
A vehicle driven by a 17-year-old male, of Mason, was traveling north on Mockingbird Road when he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway on the left side. The vehicle struck a power pole, breaking the pole in half, and began overturning, eventually landing on the passenger side in a field.
Three passengers, 18-year-old Trey Hawkey, of Iola, a 15-year-old male, of Iola, and another 15-year-old male, of Edgewood, were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. All four vehicle occupants were injured. The driver was taken to Clay County Hospital, Hawkey was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital via airlift, the 15-year-old from Iola was taking to Clay County Hospital, and the 15-year-old from Edgewood was taken to St. Anthony’s in Effingham.
The driver stated that he was driving too fast and lost control of the vehicle. He is charged with Failure to Reduce Speech to Avoid an Accident, Failure to Wear a Seat Belt, and Failure to Secure Two Minors. Hawkey is charged with Failure to Wear a Seat Belt.
