The Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois will get to make improvements to Camp Wassatoga in Effingham. The group was recently awarded with an $8,000 grant from the Siemer Milling Endowment to make improvements to the camp along with supporting the Effingham County Girl Scout Leadership Experience. The Effingham County Chapter of the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois serves $1,000 Scouts, ages 5-17, and adult volunteers. Improvements to Camp Wassatoga include a more accessible dock, additional canoes, and new safety equipment such as an AED.
The Siemer Milling Company Endowment was established in 2006 to support the development of young leaders. The endowment fund has awarded $93,800 to nonprofit groups in Effingham County.
