The third Annual Effingham 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is set for 9 a.m. Sunday, with on-site registration from 7:30-8:30 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Participants will climb up the equivalent of 110 stories, same as the World Trade Center, to pay tribute to the lives lost on 9/11, particularly first responders. It has been 15 years since the attacks.
Jerrod Estes, one the event organizers, explained that everyone has a connection with 9/11, even those of us who live hundreds of miles away from where the attacks occurred.
The event is open to the public and will feature an I-Beam from one of the World Trade Towers with the opening ceremony set to begin 8:30. The climb is in its third year and according to Estes, has grown significantly since it’s first year.
Funds raised by the climbers through donations goes to support the families of fallen firefighters. More information can be found here!
