The Cubs got on the board in the third with a solo home run by Bryant. The Cubs then added three runs in the fifth on a Zobrist RBI double and a Russell two run home run to make it 4-0. The Cubs added another run in the sixth on a Bryant RBI sacrifice to make it 5-0. The Padres scored three runs in the ninth on a Myers RBI single, Solarte sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch by Chapman.
Arrieta got the win improving to 16-5 on the season. Arrieta gave up 2 hits while striking out 6 and walked 3 over 8 innings. Friedrich took the loss falling to 4-10 on the year. Friedrich gave up 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 2 and walking 4 over 5 and 1/3 innings.
