Even after Mets starter Niese left after one out in the first the Cardinals couldn’t get the win, falling to the Mets 7-4.
The Mets got on the board in the top of the first with a three run home run by Flores. The Cardinals came back with three runs in the first thanks to a Moss RBI single, a Molina RBI double, and a Peralta RBI to tie the game at three. The Mets added two runs in the second on a Reyes RBI single and a Cabrera RBI double to make it 5-3. The Mets then added another run on a solo home run by Ruggiano in the fourth. The Cardinals came back with a Grichuk solo home run in the sixth to make it 6-4. The Mets added one more run in the ninth on a Loney RBI single to make it 7-4.
Gsellman got the win to improve to 1-0 on the year. Gsellman gave up 2 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3 over 3 and 2/3 innings. Niese was the starter but let after 1/3 of an inning with a hurt left knee after giving up 3 runs in 1/3 inning. Garcia took the loss falling to 10-9 on the season. Garcia gave up 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1 over 4 innings.
