During Monday’s meeting, the Dieterich Unit #30 School Board heard reports from Elementary School Principal, Kathy Pattenaude, and Jr/Sr High School Principal, Kevin Haarman on this year’s school registration. Though registration is not yet completely finalized, as some students have yet to register for the upcoming school year, the estimated enrollment for Dieterich appears to be up from last year. The estimated enrollment for the Elementary School is 312, Jr High is 61, and High School is 119. Haarman and Pattenaude also reported that the test scores for 2016 PARCC tests were well above the state average. Kevin Haarman also reported that the high school students will no longer take the PARCC test, but will be given the SAT, instead. This will reduce standardized testing and allow high school students participation in a college entrance exam. Also, Dieterich High School has gained the Bronze level of recognition from the U.S, News and World Report for the second year in a row.
The Board also approved a resolution to establish a Hazardous Route. This will allow the District’s buses to provide transportation to those that live north of Route 33, within one and a half miles from the school. They also approved a request to purchase new uniforms for the High School Girls Basketball team. Jordan Michels was also hired as the High School Boy’s Junior Varsity Basketball Coach.
