The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year-old William E. Wolf after a vehicle chase on Saturday evening. A County Deputy was heading northbound on US-45 at IL-37, south of Effingham, when they observed a silver Dodge Truck, driven by Wolf, stopped on the roadway. Wolf then rapidly accelerated, smoking and squealing the truck’s tires and headed southbound.
The Deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the truck, but Wolf refused to stop and fled southbound on I-37 into Watson and attempted to cross the railroad tracks on Main Street. While crossing, Wolf lost control of the vehicle, went airborne across the tracks, and ran over several mailboxes on Main Street. The vehicle came to rest approximately two blocks away from from the tracks and Wolf continued to flee on foot, but was shortly apprehended uninjured.
Wolf is charged with DUI, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding Police, Illegal Squealing of Tires, Speeding, Driving in the Wrong Lane, No insurance, Driving While Licence Revoked, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident.
