The Cubs came back from a 4-0 deficit but couldn’t hold on against the White Sox falling 5-4.
The White Sox got out to an early lead with an Eaton RBI single in the third. Frazier added three runs in the sixth on a three run home run to make it 4-0. The Cubs came back with a Báez two run home run in the seventh to make it 4-2. The Cubs then added two runs in the top of the ninth thanks to a Fowler and Rizzo RBI singles to tie the game at 4. The White Sox were able to come back and get the walkoff winner on a Saladino RBI single.
Neither starting pitch factored into the final decision. White Sox starter González gave up 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 8 and walking 2 over 6 and 2/3 innings. Jennings got the win in relief. Cubs starter Arrieta gave up 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking 2 over 6 innings. Montgomery took the loss in relief.
The Cubs will finish their series with the White Sox today at 6 PM.
