One was injured late Sunday night on I-57, just 3 miles west of Salem in Marion County after losing control of their vehicle and crashing into the median.
28-year-old Curtis W. Thorpe, of Kell, IL, was traveling southbound on I-57 when witnesses claimed he began serving back and forth, suddenly turning hard to the left and leaving the roadway into the center median. The vehicle slide sideways and overturned several times, ejecting Thorpe.
Thorpe was transported to Salem Hospital and later airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment. He is charged with Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Wear a Seatbelt, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
