It may have taken 5 innings but when the Cardinals offense woke up there was no stopping them as they cruised to a 10-2 win against San Diego.
San Diego got on the board first with a Kemp solo home run in the fourth. The Cardinals came back in the fifth with a Holliday RBI single that also scored Díaz on a throwing error to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals kept the offense going with a 4 run sixth thanks to an Adams two run double, a Díaz RBI triple, and a Piscotty RBI single to make it 6-1. The Padres got a run back in the seventh on a Amarista RBI to make it 6-2. The Cardinals then got the power going as they got a two run home run from Grichuk and a solo home run from Gyrko in the seventh. The Cardinals got another run on a Piscotty solo home run in the eighth to take a 10-2 lead.
Leake got the win improving to 7-7 on the season. Leake gave up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 11 over 6 innings. Friedrich took the loss falling to 4-6 on the year. Freidrich gave up 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 5 over 5 and 1/3 innings.
