The Cardinals lose their first series after the All Star break after falling to the Marlins 6-3.
St. Louis got on the board first with a Matt Holliday solo home run in the bottom of the second. Miami came back thanks to an RBI single by Mathis in the top of the fourth. Miami took the lead in the fifth with a Yelich two run single. The Cardinals got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch making it 3-2. The Cardinals got another run in the sixth thanks to a throwing error, this tied the game at 3. Miami came back with a Stanton RBI double and a Kelly sacrifice fly to take a 5-3 lead. The Marlins added a run in the eighth with a Yelich sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.
Neither starting pitcher got the decision. Marlins starting pitcher Conley gave up 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 3 over 5 and 1/3 innings. Barraclough got the win in relief. Cardinals starting pitcher Wacha gave up 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2 over 4 innings. Broxton took the loss in relief.
