The Pirates scored first with a RBI by Mercer in the second inning. The Cardinals then scored a run in the fourth when Díaz scored on a wild pitch. The Cardinals added a run in the fifth with a Grichuk solo home run making it 2-1. The Cardinals then added three runs in the sixth on a Piscotty three run home run to make it 5-1.
The start of the game was delayed a half an hour due to rain.
Wainwright got the win going to 8-5 on the season. Wainwright gave up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1 over 7 innings. Glasnow, making his first career start, took the loss falling to 0-1 on the season. Glasnow gave up 4 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2 over 5 and 1/3 innings.
