The Cardinals blew a 5-1 lead against the Pirates and ended up losing 7-5.
The Pirates scored first with a Freese solo home run in the first. The Cardinals came back with a Díaz solo home run in the third to tie the game. The Cardinals scored four runs in the fourth thanks to Gyorko RBI single, Jaime García sacrifice fly, Wong RBI bunt single, and a Díaz RBI single to take a 5-1 lead. The Pirates however came back with a Rodriguez solo home run in the fifth making it 5-2. The Pirates then added two runs in the sixth off a Harison RBI single and a Rodriguez RBI single to make it 5-4. The Pirates took the lead in the seventh thanks to a 2 run RBI double by Kang and an error by Díaz to take a 7-5 lead.
Neither of the starting pitchers got the decision. Pirates starter Locke gave up 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. Schugel got the win. Cardinals starter Jaime García gave up 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking 3 over 5 innings. Broxton took the loss.
The Cardinals also may have lost Matt Carpenter who left in the second innings. Carpenter will be evaluated today.
