The Cardinals got on the board first with a Piscotty RBI in the fifth. Díaz scored on a throwing error from Zobrist making it 2-0. The Cardinals then added 5 runs in the sixth on a Molina RBI, Carpenter two run RBI double, and a Díaz two run home run making it 7-0. The Cubs scored two runs on a Contreras two run home run.
Wacha got the win moving to 3-7 on the season. Wacha gave up 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5 and walking 2 over 6 and 2/3 innings. Arrieta took the loss falling to 11-2 on the season. Arrieta gave up 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 6 and walking 4 over 5 innings.
The Cardinals sweep of the Cubs helped them gain ground in the NL Central. The Cubs still lead the Cardinals by 9.5 games.
