The Cubs scored first with a Zobrist solo home run in the top of the first. The Nationals scored in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch to tie it at 1. The Nationals took the lead in the bottom of the eighth with a Drew solo home run. The Cubs came back with a two run home run by Rizzo in the top of the ninth to give Chicago the lead 3-2. The Nationals tied it up in the bottom of the ninth with a Ramos RBI single. The Cubs scored in the top of the twelfth with Russell RBI single to make it 4-3. The Nationals came back with a Taylor RBI single to tie the game. Jayson Werth then hit a walk off RBI single to give the Nationals the win.
Cubs starter Jason Hammel pitched 7 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4. Cahill took the loss in relief. Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg gave up 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 8 and walking 1 over 7 innings. Petit got the win in relief.
The Cubs start a series with Pittsburgh on Friday at 1:20.
