Game 1
Bryar Jansen led Effingham going 2-5, driving in one run and scoring another, but it wasn’t enough as Effingham Post 120 fell to Newton Post 20 6-5.
Effingham got on the board first with 2 runs in the top of the first inning. Newton came back with 1 run in the bottom of the second. Effingham added 2 more runs in the top of the fourth to take 4-1. Effingham added 1 run in the top of the seventh to make it 5-1. Newton however came back in the bottom of the seventh with 5 runs to get the win.
Lane Koenig took the loss in relief. Drew Gibson the Effingham starter, pitched 6 innings giving up 5 runs over 7 hits while striking out 4. Tim Weber got the win in relief. Nate Meinhart pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 4 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 4.
Game 2
Effingham came back with 7 runs in winning game number 2 against Newton Post 20 7-2.
Effingham got off to another fast start scoring 3 runs in the top of the first. Newton came back with a run in the third and fourth to make it 3-2. Effingham responded with 3 runs in the top of the sixth and 1 run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-2.
Hudson Graham got the win going 7 innings giving up 2 runs over 4 hits while striking out 14. Luke Geier took the loss for Newton. Geier pitched 5 and 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs over 8 hits and striking out 1.
Effingham’s record is now 5-1. Effingham Post 120 will next play in the New Baden Tournament. Effingham’s first game is at 5 PM Friday against Carlyle. Effingham then play two games on Saturday at 4:30 and again at 7. The tournament wraps up Sunday.
