Us Representative John Shimkus held office hours in Effingham on Tuesday. Among others, Medicare was foremost on the minds of residents.
Congressman Shimkus also discussed other issues with constituents ranging from transgender bathroom rights to shrinking the size of government. When asked about where he stood on the Obama Administration’s measures to allow transgender individuals to use bathrooms in public schools that matched their gender identity, Congressman Shimkus said he was “embarrassed.”
Shimkus also discussed a piece of legislation called Toxic Substance Control Act that put tighter restrictions on the use of dangerous chemicals.
