The man wanted for shooting a Mahomet Police Officer was killed Sunday in a shootout with the FBI. 35-year-old Dracy “Clint” Pendleton had been on the run since Saturday, May 8th. Pendleton shot Officer Jeremy Scharlow after a traffic stop. Scharlow is currently recovering at home.
The search for Pendleton was focused in the Pope County area in southern Illinois. A tip from a resident in the area led authorities to Sulphur Springs, where Pendleton opened fire on FBI and a State Police SWAT team. Pendleton as fatally shot, while an FBI agent was wounded.
