Effingham County will be joining the Regional Growth Alliance, commonly referred to as The Alliance. The County Board approved their membership at Monday’s meeting. A discounted membership fee of $3500 will be paid for the remainder of 2016, with the full $15,000 to be paid in 2017. The Alliance works to support the local economy by supporting businesses and organizations throughout the area.
The Board also made the decision to not earmark $2,500 from the Hotel/Motel fund for maintenance of the TREC Trail. Board Chairman Jim Niemann explained that the money will remain in the general fund, and is still available to be used by TREC if needed.
In other action, a $1000 contribution was approved for the Good Neighbors of Lake Sara Fourth of July fireworks show.
The Board also approved a resolution establishing the County’s support of the Southern Illinois BiCentennial Celebration. A committee will be created to report to the County Board and to the group putting on the celebration. The celebration will feature events and exhibits in the state’s southern region from 2018-2020. Each year will have a different theme, focusing on the past, present, and future.
