A 24-year old man from Burbank, Illinois has been charged in Fayette County with two counts of unlawful transportation of cigarettes.
The charge comes after Mohamad Ibrahim was arrested last week on Interstate 70 at near St. Elmo. He was found in possession of more than 40,000 cigarettes not properly tax stamped for transport or sale within the State of Illinois.The second count against Ibrahim because he allegedly possessed more than 1,000 packages of contraband cigarettes within the State of Illinois.
Both counts are Class 3 Felony charges. The case is being handled by the Illinois Attorney General’s office as the offense is a violation of the Illinois Department of Revenue’s Cigarette Use Tax Act. A preliminary hearing will be held in Fayette County Court on May 20 at 1pm.
