Ohio Governor John Kasich is suspending his presidential campaign today. Kasich has scheduled a late afternoon news conference in Columbus. He abruptly canceled an earlier news briefing in Northern Virginia. Kasich has won only one primary contest in his home state of Ohio. Kasich was the last man standing against frontrunner Donald Trump after last night’s exit by Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Trump will soon nail down enough delegates to secure the GOP nomination before July’s convention in Cleveland.
Senator Cruz suspended his presidential campaign after being defeated soundly by Trump in Indiana’s primary. Cruz did not mention Trump during his withdrawal speech. Governor Kasich often criticized the tone of the GOP presidential race and argued that he offered a more positive, constructive message to voters.
