A semi was blown off the road during Wednesday night’s heavy storms on Interstate 70 near the Altamont exit. Illinois State Police say a 2016 Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer driven by Magnus Hammond of Stamford, Connecticut was traveling westbound on I-70 at milepost 82 when a severe thunderstorm hit the area. The driver stated that he was traveling at a low rate of speed due to the heavy rain when the wind started to blow. The wind turned the semi over onto the driver’s side into the left lane of traffic.
Interstate 70 westbound was closed temporarily and traffic rerouted for a time onto U.S. Route 40.
