The Mattoon Police Department has made an arrest stemming from an incident on March 25th when a man was attacked with a baseball bat. The victim of the attack was assaulted by four men in the 2300-2400 block of Commercial Avenue in Mattoon at 6:00pm. He was beaten, kicked, and struck with a baseball bat, suffering injuries that required treatment at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System. A Crimestoppers request for assistance was made following the attack.
An arrest has since been made, with police bringing 29-year-old Hazelcrest resident Mikyel Patton into custody on the charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Mob Action. Patton is alleged to have been among the group that committed the assault.
Patton is also alleged to have participated in the beating of another man on the evening of April 3rd. That incident occurred within a house in the 2200 block of Charleston Avenue in Mattoon. The victim in that case was beaten by a group of 4-5 suspects with a beer bottle and a crowbar.
Crimestoppers is now seeking information about the whereabouts of 32-year-old Mattoon resident Adrian Vasquez. Vasquez is a person of interest and is sought by Mattoon police for questioning in regards to both of these cases. Vasquez is known to frequentsMattoon, Charleston, Arcola, and Houston, TX.
