The Effingham Flaming Hearts baseball team improved to 6-2 on the season after their 6-4 win over Dieterich Thursday afternoon.
It was a back-and-forth game, with Dieterich jumping out to the 1-0 lead after one inning. Effingham responded with a three-run second inning to take their first lead. Dieterich answered with a three run fifth to reclaim the lead. The lead though was short lived, with Effingham scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to lead 5-4. A walk to load the bases that was followed by a wild pitch helped the Hearts get back on top. An error in the sixth inning allowed Effingham to extend their lead.
Colby Utz was the winning pitcher for Effingham. Mason Hull pitched two hitless innings to pick up the save.
