The Mattoon Police Department made two arrests Monday after a stabbing. 25-year-old South Holland resident Brittany Townsend (seen above, left) was arrested on the charge of Aggravated Battery. This charge alleges that she used a butcher knife to stab her boyfriend during a domestic dispute. The male victim, also of South Holland, was transported to Carle hospital due to a knife wound in his torso.
The incident occurred at 7:47am within an apartment at 2200 S. 17th street. Police and fire units were initially dispatched to a report in which a man had allegedly fallen upon a butcher knife. Upon arrival, the victim was found to have a puncture wound to the middle of his back. An investigation was then conducted and that led to Townsend’s arrest.
A second subject, 27-year-old Anthony James (seen above, right), of Charleston, was also arrested for Obstructing Justice. The charge alleges that James was present during the attack, and that he lied to police about what occurred.
The stabbing victim is expected to make a full recovery.
