The Effingham Softball team improved to 3-2 Friday with a 6-1 win over Cumberland. The Hearts scored in the first three innings of the game before adding two more runs in the final frame. Effingham’s pitching kept the Pirates offense from answering with six strong innings from Aly Armstrong. Armstrong gave up just one run and struck out 12.
Effingham’s Hope Collier went 2-3 with a an RBI and two runs. She got the offense going with an inside-the-park homerun in the first inning.
With the loss Cumberland falls to 2-6. They’ll be in action today against Casey-Westfield and Mattoon. Effingham plays Beecher City-Cowden Herrick on Tuesday.
